The SBxFC is an environmentally conscious organization. We are strong supporters of environmental advocacy and seek to improve personal, local and worldwide green efforts any way possible. We avoid purchasing or using toxic substances, animal tested products, and products that are irradiated and/or genetically engineered. The SBxFC engages in recycling efforts, uses a minimum of disposable products, and prefers the use of biodegradable products and packaging whenever possible.
We respect the environment and strive to reduce the impact of our lifestyles on the world we share with other species now and for future generations.
We also keep to this pledge by buying from local, earth-friendly producers, leading by example, educating others and ourselves about health, nutrition and cooperation.
Like many other conscientious grocers, we encourage members to utilize reusable bags when shopping at the cooperative to reduce waste. (You get a free one with membership!) We also encourage shoppers to bring containers, jars and other personal storage bins when purchasing bulk goods such as cereal, sugar, coffee and rice. By bringing your own container you save yourself and the cooperative money while reducing disposable waste.
