The SBxFC purchases products from a vast array of vendors, wholesalers and distributors in an effort to provide members and customers with the best prices for quality goods.

Farmers:

The closest farms to the SBxFC are approximately 90 miles away. When the local growing season is in full swing, the vast majority of the coop's produce and raised products come from within the 100- to 200-mile range. This includes more than 40 local farms (not including our meat and poultry suppliers). When our region's growing season ends, the coop sources product from further away, but when possible we try to buy closer to home. Our goal is to purchase from within a 500 square mile radius from our location in the Bronx.

Although we focus on local foods, we also try to assist “little” farms and community gardens to promote sustainable family-owned farms and farming cooperatives throughout our region. The coop's buying practices support people who, in general, are dedicated and conscientious stewards of the land.
